This article depicts and describes Lever's Structured Contact Location feature included in the Winter 2024 Product Release, scheduled to rollout progressively in February 2024. For full details, refer to our Winter 2024 Product Release Notes. |
Lever's Chrome extension allows you to pull candidate information from the sites on which you are sourcing, such as LinkedIn and GitHub, directly into Lever. Using the Chrome extension, you can create new candidate profiles as well as generate new opportunities and link them to existing candidate profiles. Before proceeding, download the Lever browser extension from the Chrome Web Store. To watch a demonstration of how to add candidates to Lever via the Chrome extension, jump to the video at the end of this article. Click below to see the full list of sites on which the Lever Chrome extension can be used.

Creating a new candidate profile via the Chrome extension
To create a new candidate profile using the Chrome extension, start by navigating to the profile of a prospective candidate on one of the external sites on which the Chrome extension is supported (see above). The Chrome extension will scan the profile page on the external site for a URL that matches any candidate profiles that already exist in your Lever environment (e.g. the URL for a candidate's LinkedIn profile). If a candidate profile with a matching URL is found, that candidate's Lever profile will appear when you expand extension. Refer to the section on linking a new opportunity to an existing candidate profile for instructions on how to proceed in this case. If no matching URL is found, a Create button will extend in the lower-right corner of your browser window. Click this button to open the extension. If the Create button does not appear after a few seconds, try clicking the Lever Chrome extension icon in the top-right corner of your browser to expand the extension.
Fill in the fields in the expanded extension with the candidate's information and then click the Create Candidate button.
|
If you are using the Chrome extension on LinkedIn, try exporting a candidate's profile as a PDF and dragging it into the expanded extension. The exported profile will be parsed and the fields in the expanded extension will populate automatically. For more information, refer to the help article on how to save a candidate profile as a PDF on LinkedIn. |
Upon clicking the Create Candidate button, Lever will once again check candidate profiles that already exist in your Lever environment, this time searching for any candidate profiles with a matching email address. If a candidate profile with a matching email address is found, a new general opportunity will be added to that candidate's profile. Refer to the section on linking a new opportunity to an existing candidate profile for instructions on how to proceed in this case.
If no candidate profile with a matching email address can be found, a new candidate profile will be created and a general opportunity will be associated with it. From the profile editor in the extension, you can then link the opportunity to a specific posting by clicking the Choose Job button and selecting a posting from the list that appears.
At this step you can also add and update candidate information, including new opportunities, tags, phone number, and contact location.
With Lever's 2024 Structured Contact Location release, the structured location field will be added to newly created candidate profiles. When adding candidates to Lever either directly, via the Lever Chrome Extension, or by referral form, the contact location field will be parsed from the uploaded candidate resume.
If you do not upload a resume or a location is not parseable, the location field provides a dropdown of verifiable, standardized locations. As you type into the location field, the location recommendations menu will appear.
In Lever, the newly created opportunity will appear in the New Lead stage of your pipeline. The opportunity will have an origin of 'Sourced' and a source corresponding to the external site from which the profile was generated, unless otherwise edited in the extension.
Note the pipeline location, origin, and source of opportunities submitted as referrals via the Chrome extension are different than what has been described above. Read on for details about referrals submitted via the Chrome extension.
Submitting referrals via the Chrome extension
If you wish to add a candidate to Lever as a referral via the Chrome extension, simply click the 'Referral' checkbox under the name field in the expanded extension.
Additional fields will appear in the expanded extension into which you will be required to input details about the nature of your referral, reflective of the fields on the referral form configured in your organization's Lever environment. For more information, check out our help article on referral submission.
In Lever, the newly created opportunity will appear in the New Applicant stage of your pipeline. The opportunity will have an origin of 'Referred.' The opportunity will have two sources - the first-ranked source will be 'Referral' and the second-ranked source will correspond to the external site from which the profile was generated, unless otherwise edited in the extension.
|
Users with Interviewer level access will only be able to submit referrals via the Chrome extension. Since their user access role does not give them visibility into the pipeline, they will only be able to track their referrals in the My referrals tab in Lever. Their user access role also prevents them editing the origin or source of the opportunity. |
Linking a new opportunity to an existing candidate profile via the Chrome extension
If a candidate profile with a matching URL or email address already exists in your Lever environment, you can use the Chrome extension to add a new opportunity to the existing profile.
Linking a new opportunity to an existing candidate profile with a matching URL
When the existing candidate's profile appears in the expanded extension, simply click the + Add new opportunity button beneath the stage menu. In the pop-up that appears, you can select a posting with which to associate the opportunity or select the Don't choose job yet checkbox to create a general opportunity.
In Lever, the newly created opportunity will appear in the New Lead stage of the pipeline. The opportunity origin will be 'Sourced' and the source will correspond to the external site from which the opportunity was generated, unless otherwise edited in the extension.
Linking a new opportunity to an existing candidate profile with a matching email address
Upon clicking the Create Candidate button after filling out the fields in the expanded extension, a new general opportunity will automatically be added to the existing candidate profile in Lever. To update the general opportunity in order to associate it with a specific posting, click the Choose Job button above the stage menu and select a posting from the list that appears.
In Lever, the newly created opportunity will appear in the New Lead stage of the pipeline with an origin of 'Sourced' and a source corresponding to the external site from which the opportunity was generated, unless otherwise edited in the extension. An exception would apply if the opportunity was created as a referral submission (see the section on referral submission above), in which case the newly created opportunity would appear in the New Applicant stage of the pipeline with an origin of 'Referred' and sources 'Referral' followed by the external site from which the opportunity was generated, unless otherwise edited in the extension.
Searching for existing candidates via the Chrome extension
To double check if a candidate already has existing opportunities in your Lever environment that would not have been caught by a URL or email match, you can search your Lever opportunity database by clicking the Search Lever for existing candidates button in the expanded extension.
Use the search bar to search for opportunities by variables such as candidate name, source, or tag. For a full list of search variables, refer to our help article on Lever's search functionality.
If your search does return existing opportunities, click the Add to button to add the profile URL for the profile you are currently viewing to corresponding profile in Lever. Click the candidate's name in the search results to open the full opportunity profile in a new tab.
